Hey all,
It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since I've visited these forums. I was active in the Oliver and implement alley ones for the most part. At that time my nickname was "Rexalot" but I couldn't login or recover my password for that account, so here I am starting fresh as a "new user" with slight change to my account name.
I have an 801 (871) diesel that the injection pump really needs a rebuild. A long time ago it started dripping fuel from the throttle shaft (which I ignored for a few years) and then about 4 years ago, I finally parked the tractor. I wasn't able to shut it off with the throttle lever against the stop. I had to starve it of fuel. I bought a seal kit at that time but didn't get around to trying to pull the pump until now. I'm finally ready. I have the 20-degree line on the flywheel at the timing mark and both lines in the pump window are together. I took the valve cover off, both #1 rockers are loose. I believe I'm where I want to be to remove the pump.
I have several Oliver gas tractors, owned a few Farmall's, and I'm a recently retired aircraft mechanic, so I have experience turning a wrench. However, I have to admit; the diesel system is intimidating me just a bit.
Question 1. How can I be certain I'm not 180 out, or does it even matter? I don't plan on disturbing the engine with the pump out.
Question 2. I've read other threads about injection pump rebuilds, and @Dieseltech is mentioned as person who rebuilds these pumps. I'm in central Indiana, I noted he shows as in Akron, In. How do you guys get in touch with him? I tried an email that was listed in another post.
My initial thought was to attempt resealing the pump. The tractor was running, but If I have it out, I think rebuild would probably be best. It could also use an injector cleaning and pressure checks. I'm not even sure where I would find the pieces (crush gaskets etc.) to begin pulling those out.
Thanks all.
