I found a Texas DL and other papers along a road near my house. No phone number so I mailed them to the address which was in Austin and not the local area. I got a note back from a parent whose daughter wasn't supposed to be out here.

My wife bought a nice suitcase at a yard sale. When we got home she opened it and found 2 $100 bills in a pocket. She said take me back there I'm not keeping it, so we went back but the yard sale was done so we knocked on the door and her husband came. He took the money and thanked us. Before we got to the car he hollered for us to wait. His wife came out and insisted my wife take $50. My wife tried to refuse but the woman insisted and informed us the suit case belonged to her deceased mother and she had no idea the money was in it. . I have found lots of tools in the road. Usually just keep small things, but have found several larger items and returned to the owner if possible. 👨‍🌾

If I find cash or wallet with cash and money and ID I try to contact owner. I NEVER give it to the cops. Some departments in this area just hang on to it until proper owner contacts them. If they have not been contacted in 90 days, it goes in their Christmas party fund. I have found credit cards on my AM walk. I post the name on social media but no one ever reaches out so I guess they have already canceled them.

Scrap yard once paid me $250 for a bag of aluminum cans. Since the bank was closed, there was no point in looking at it until I got home and saw the mistake. Took it back down there the following Monday and got the $30 i was supposed to get. I THOUGHT they might be grateful enough to help me out if I ever got in a jam in the future. Sure enough, a couple weeks later I ran a check through the washing machine, so I asked them if they could re-issue the check. She said there would be a $40 stop-payment fee if there was no check to return. There was enough of it left that had their company name on it, but it was still a no-go.

I told her, when I picked up my new check, not to make that mistake again because was gonna keep it and cash it the next time this happened.

I have a found story.
I found what I would call a womens tanned leather wallet, purse, coin purse combo that was obviously hand made with beads and hand embroidery on it at a cardlock gas station in a remote mining town in Yukon Canada. Credit Cards, Drivers license, and a small amount of cash was in it. I continued on our vacation and when I got home to Iowa several weeks later I boxed it up and mailed it to the address on the License. A couple weeks later I got a phone call from Nova Scotia Canada. The what sounded like a young lady had received the purse that I had sent her and gotten my return address off the package and called our city hall and told the city clerk the story and being a small town (350 people) and the clerk knowing me and that I would be the kind of guy that would mail it back to her she gave her my phone # This gal was in tears and said that purse meant so much to her as it was a hand made gift to her from her recently passed mother and that she took a trip across Canada to clear her head and to figure out how she was going to go on with her life without her Mom and mistakenly left it on top of the card reader. That winter just before Christmas I got a package in the mail from her of some locally made maple candy with a really heart warming Thank You from her.

Found 5 $100 bills in an envelope in the HEB parking lot. Went to the service counter inside & a young lady had already reported she had lost it. They gave me her name and phone #, called her & told her I found $500 in parking lot and if she could identify them with the serial #'s I would give them to her. Let her sweat for a few seconds and then went by & dropped them off......got a big hug.

Picking rock after planting and found a crisp $100 bill. Had never been folded. Closest road was 1/4 mile away. I was on my Honda 4wheeler...rode in ever expanding circle to see if more could be found, nope. Was on the 8th anniversary of my dad's passing on land I bought from him.

Most expensive thing I ever came across was two new 12" Epiroc Rotary drill bits. Contacted the company and the serial number told that they were sold to a drilling outfit in PA. Got ahold of the company and ask if they had anything missing. Was told that an ex-employee had stolen two bits.. Met up with a guy from the company to return them and he tried to pay me a $10,000 "reward". I passed.

Other than that I have found everything from money, guns and tools to lady undergarments in the woods. Some got returned, some were untraceable.

First Jocco is lambed up pretty bad from a recent job so slower day today. Anyway finding something of value that isn't yours. Wallet in parking lot, chainsaw on shoulder of road, mail or package delivered to you that is some one else. You get the picture For me there have been lots of stuff over the years. I made a reasonable attempt to find the owner. Some times it was not possible. We were logging on a job site and a guy found a pistol hidden in a tree (hollow cavity) he kept it! Driving up a road one day me and another fellow started to find tools strewed along in batches. They must have come off a truck somehow. No clue on how or why. Mrs Jocco found a wallet with quite a bit of money in it but no id. The rightful owner surfaced and id it.
Never really found anything interesting but I come across something I always try to return it. Been on the other side of it too . About 30 years ago when I was 21 I started my construction career. Got my second or third paycheck. Can’t remember exactly. Went and cashed the check. On the way home I stopped for gas and somehow dropped the envelope full of money. Only lived a few miles away and went back immediately. Nothing to be found and nobody turned in anything. Was about 500 dollars. Guess someone had a bigger than normal payday.

One I can think of is I was around 12 and it was summer time and I was walking the neighborhood ground hog hunting with a 22. I was about 2 miles from home and was on the far neighbors property and crossed a creek and looked down saw a log chain, so I picked it up and me and my dog went to the house, Joe was about 75 to 80 years old and he thanked me, his wife gave me a coke and my trusty dog got a cookie.

Heading home from annual family trip to North Dakota. I was about 12 so early '70s. Stopped at the rest area on Mullan pass. Dad came out of the outhouse with a billfold. Inside was over $400, lot of money at that time. A Montana 3 day fishing licence and a Washington driver's licence, address a small town somewhere in apple country. We drove to the town, Dad started asking around if anyone knew the guy. Found his brother in law (I think it was) who led us out to the guys house. When he came to the door Dad asked him if he had been wearing those bib overalls this morning when he went to the outhouse on Mullan pass. When he said yes, Dad handed him the billfold and said " I know exactly what happened". He insisted Dad take $40 and a cooler of nice trout

I found a cat on the road this morning. Cats have some value. It’s supposed to snow a lot this weekend and I think the cat will be gone for a bit. But then the eagles are around so maybe it will be gone soon.

I found a huge diamond ring in a women's restroom at a large well known business.
The diamond had to be at least 3 carats... the gold band was huge! Must have been one Amazon of a gal.

I gave the ring to my boss who said he would turn it in to our security team.
I hope that he actually did!!!

I was on a business trip to LA. Had a freight item with me on the flight. Landed and went to the freight office to get the item. Needed my wallet to complete the transaction. I was in a hurry and other distracting things occurred. Loaded the package in the rental car and headed up the coast road to my destination. On the way I stopped for a snack and when I got ready to pay, my wallet rear pocket was empty.

SHOCK!!!!!! Mentally went through the recent events and felt like it must have been misplaced during the freight office visit. Called the office and a clerk told me that they had my wallet.........a thoughtful customer found it on the floor and gave it to me said the clerk.

I turned around and went back to retrieve my wallet. It was totally intact, nothing, including cash, was missing........I WAS DULY IMPRESSED considering where I lost it. Don't know who found it and thoughtfully gave it to a clerk for my retrieval when I found out I had lost it!

Since we're telling stories: A few days ago I looked out the front door and saw something odd in the front yard. An Armadillo apparently had been hit by a car and wandered till it died....in my front yard. Later in the day I saw one Gray Buzzard (Vulture) feasting on it. Later in the day I looked out again and there were 3 of them at the site, one stuffing itself and 2 watching. Curious???? Checked back several times and on one occasion the one eating must have gotten its fill as it flew off when the second one hopped over and started eating, the 3rd one still standing where it was. The 2nd one got its fill and flew off allowing the 3rd one to move up to the table and have its meal.

I had no idea that Buzzards have a pecking order????? Apparently so. Learn something every day.

Update. Checked yesterday and they had picked the shell clean, I mean spotless....all the "innards" disappeared. Amazing.

I once found a billfold in the shrubs around the repair shop, I was working at. It had a driver's license and several gift certificates, and credit cards but no cash. I was familiar with the owner, so I contacted him, and he told me he had lost it at a local bar. I took it to his father's bar restaurant several miles away to return it. When i got there, I gave it to him and he thanked me. His father then asked me where the money was that was that was in it. I told him there wasn't any, but he acted like I was a liar. Boy, what an azz! I thought maybe a beer for a reward but not this! I guess sometimes it doesn't pay to do the right thing.

A neighbor farms a piece about 5 miles down the highway. Coming home from town I met his Dad on a tractor pulling a ripper going to the field. About a mile up the road, I saw a tooth for a ripper laying in the road so I stopped and picked it up. Figured it belonged to the neighbor so I turned around and went to the field. I stopped and his Dad got out and I took the tooth over to him and asked if he was missing one. He didn't know but we looked and he was short one. I gave it back to him and he thanked me for picking it up and returning it. We hadn't gotten along very well before but after that they were much better.

Boy, I must lead a dull life. I don't remember ever finding anything worth returning. I did find a penny in the Meijer parking lot the other day. I did stop and pick it up. It's in a gallon jar biding it's time until the jar is full.

Found a loaded 38 under the front seat of a rental car in Florida. Called the police to come remove it . They took it with them. Needless to say the rental car agency ate the rental charges.
