Ford 555b transmission issues

555b backhoe with 6x4 manual reversing transmission. Was using the loader one day, went from forward to reverse and let the clutch out. Engine bogged down and died. Went to neutral in both shifters and started it back, let clutch out and it died again. No matter what gear or range it’s in the clutch has to be pressed in fully or the engine will bog down and stall against the clutch. Took the top cover off and check that it wasn’t in two gears somehow and didn’t come up with anything out of the ordinary. Scratching my head with this one, getting ready to split the machine but wanted to put a post out to see if anyone has had a similar issue.

Did anyone ever answer you on your problem? What did you figure out

I was just curious I have a 420 industrial with the 6x4 transmission and had questions.
If you hover your cursor over, or click on, a member's avatar most will show you when they were last seen (logged in) here. Checking the original poster, it appears he started this thread on 2/10/24 and last logged in on 2/12/24. (Likely discouraged with no replies.) Who knows he might answer but I would put it on the unlikely side of things.

I most cases you are better off to start a new thread of your own, with all the details of your machine and your questions/problems, rather than tagging onto an old thread (especially one where the OP hasn't stayed around).

Due to worn shifter, you a actually have it locked into two gears at the same time... ie you did not correctly pull the previous gear to neutral, before you shifted into the next gear. You will have to remove the top cover, pull the shift rails back to neutral, and then very carefully put the cover back on, BUT with the shifter ends in the "groove" of the shift rails.. This may take a couple of tries to get it right as there is the high low groove and the trans "groove" that has to be aligned. This can happen more often due to the end of the shifter being worn down a bit and the cover socket and guide pin being worn,, and not using a "square shifting pattern" when you shift.
