JD 8200 discs

Hello,

I have a John Deere 8200 grain drill that came with the property I bought. I’m having trouble finding discs that work with it. I’ve purchased a few from John Deere and none attach in the same way as the old ones. Photos of the old ones are attached. They are quite worn and measure about 12 1/2 inches. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

Here is a link to the JD parts catalog for that drill. JD 8200 Grain Drill parts Scroll about halfway down, the disks diagram are in the diagrams with the descriptions ending in -79, -80, -81. It shows single disks as being 13” so I don’t think 12 1/2” is necessarily to terribly wore down depending how it sets with the other parts at that diameter. If you were a 12” even I would say they were getting into the worn out zone. Unless you have double discs those call for 13 1/2” disks. And FYI that is the old version of the parts catalog. To find out price or availability place one part number on the cart and also write it down if you don’t know how to work in multiple browser tabs. Then check out this will take you into the new version but your cart will be dumped.

Leave it to Deere to use 15 parts where they needed 1,
May I ask what brand grain drill disk that you think attaches with only 1 part??? CIH model 10 grain drill single disk opener also has several parts to mount the disk.

International uses the exact same setup to mount the disc pull one bolt out of the center dust cap then there is a Allen head under that cap

Correctness of your statement depends if either brand grain drill has single or double disk. Both JD & IHC grain drill with single disk attaches with a bolt on JD first photo & nut on IHC drill 2nd photo.

I can remember robbing discs off the old. Van brunt drill in the junk yard and putting them on the ih drill we had . Double disks not single . The whole drawbar and everything was the almost identical

I am still struggling to find the right replacement. I took the opener arm off yesterday to get a better look. Attached is a photo of the bore on the arm and also photos of the hub. The diagrams for the AM12410 that Tx Jim posted and that are on the JD website indicate that it has the same kind of squared spindle that a bolt can go into to attach the disc, but when you look at the photo of the disk on their page, there isn't a squared spindle and it's a threaded bolt instead.

Looks to me that 1 bolt holds on 2 openers.... the key slot in the casting keeps the female part from turning while the bolt is unscrewed.

I have lots of IH drills from the 40's to the 80's and they all thread directly into the drawbar or the boot casting using RH and LH bolts.... nothing like that deere.

The Allen head bolt method was for the old greaseable bearing blocks... they moved on to 5/8-11 R and L threaded capscrews with the advent of sealed bearings.

I did some additional digging and found some mentions on other forums of a Shoup part number GD12410 that seems to have promise. Shoup no longer lists the part on their website but it was available in a 2018 catalog of theirs that I found an archive of and appears to be the right assembly. Waiting for a call back from them tomorrow to see if that part would fit and be available still.

I've mounted AM12410 disk on JD grain drills with single disk openers & cast iron seed boots.

Have you attempted installing a disk/brg assembly PN AM12410 from JD. Sometimes parts photos in parts catalogs aren't 100% correct.

IMHO the mounting slot in disk boot appears more rectangular than square.

The only square mounting for disk on a JD grain drill that I remember was on older steel wheel grain drill

Thanks for the reply. I tried the AM12410 directly from JD a few weeks ago but no dice. And you are correct, the mounting slot is more rectangular than square. I'm going to try to contact Burrell's to see if they might have some or have an answer.

Turns out I ordered the AM12410 from a third party website and they sent me a different disc. I went to my local JD dealer this afternoon and their AM12410 fits like a glove. Thanks for all of the help.
