A stud may be worth a try. If it can reach undamaged treads, it should hold. In small block Chevrolets I always used the same torque specification with a stud, but I always wondered if I was over torquing due to the fine thread on the stud. I have pulled the treads out and had to use a Heli-Coil, that requires head removal. In my case it always pulled all of the threads out of the block deck.
