Beware of scammers operating on here!

Here is how they are working. I postecd looking for a part and received a response saying, ____________ may have one. He is on here, but seldom posts anymore but you can contact him at [email protected]. I did it and got a response that he did in fact have one and the price was good. I verified he was a member but had not posted in over a year. Long story short, I lost my money. I did report this using the "report" button. Now the fun part: I have received 3 more responses on the same post all stating the same MO. ____________ may have one but he hasn't been on in a while so contact him at [email protected]. So if you are looking for something and receive a response ;ike I did and the member hasn't been on in a while be aware the scammers are using inactive members to get to you.

Did you use the Contact Us form and let the site administrators know all the details and names? They may be able to research it and block the IP address it came from.

Just about everyone now has a smart phone or at least a phone that is able to take a photo and either text or email the photo.
When attempting to buy something, request additional photos or request something unusual in your photo request, such as “include a wrench” in the photo.
No, it’s not a guarantee you won’t get scammed, but scammers are incredibly lazy and if they don’t have in their possession what you want, it will weed the majority of them out.
Also, talk to them in over the phone and try to get a legitimate phone number.

I take it this is the same issue that you posted about on March 16 in this linked thread? chico 1 previous scam thread You just are reemphasizing this because you received more emails recently?
As I said in your previous thread the key here is to Direct Message the inactive member, if they can’t reply to you in a Direct Message through the forum after you requesting it in an email then they simply aren’t that member and communication with them should be stopped. If you don’t know how “Direct Messages”(Private) work here learn or ask.
I understand you lost money and that is very regrettable, as I reported in the other thread this is a hot button for me because my 80 year old mother fell victim to scammers. I have since taken over her finances so these “nice people” can’t get access to more than a couple hundred bucks.

Things have gone full circle. In the early days of the internet, you had to be pretty stupid to buy anything online. The best thing to do was find something you wanted, then call the business, or go there if it was close enough and buy in person. We've gotten so comfortable with clicking Buy Now because security was pretty tight, but we're right back to where we were. Find it online, but don't buy it online unless you're positive, and I mean positive that it's the actual site of a business you regularly deal with.

The parts side of this site goal is to put this web site in front of as many people as they can to attract more new users in an attempt to sell more parts. Link it to faceplant or instagram and any other modern social media sites.
Well they got their wish. Lots of new users recently. No sweat of their as$ if some of these new users are taking advantage of the good posters here.

I suppose you are going to think what you want to think no matter what. The thing is this currently happens in all forms of communication phone, email, social media, online classified sale platforms such as Craigslist, forums and I am sure there are others ways I have overlooked. Not sure if you have been on the New AgTalk forums but for a several years now they have had a warning pinned at the top of the Machinery Talk forum page. This is to mainly giving a warning to members to beware of scammers mainly associated with the free classified on that site. That forums has no associated parts wholesale business or Facebook/social media connection that I know of. There definitely is no indication pointing to it from the forums main page.
My point is that you are suggesting that all this exposure is putting the members at risk because this “new guy” or those “in control of” or owners of the forum want exposure to sell parts and make money. While that may be true to a degree; the fact is that these scammers are all over beware!

Another way to buy parts safely, would be to ask them to post it on Ebay so you can buy it. If they are a scammer, Ebay will take care of it.

Adding, if they refuse to talk but still point out how good their price is or just the fact that they claim to have a difficult to obtain part they are likely just sucking you in using those methods to add validity to their ploy. Unfortunately, even though in many cases they don’t “translate well into English” which to most might make them seem less intelligent; the fact is that many of them are quite intelligent which allows them to be very good liars.
