My nice old TO-20 gradually developed an unresponsive draft control lever. Somehow I had the impression it was a mechanical connection issue rather than pump issue. So, I removed the inspection/dipstick cover, but couldn't get my head in there around the fender to see much of anything, and trying to snap pictures didn't help. So I took off the top cover along with the control fork.
I can't see in the bottom of the sump because the oil is still in it. But I didn't find anything obviously broken or missing. Everything looks nice and shiny and clean.
So my next step is to drain and save the oil (because it is fairly new and looks pretty good). Hopefully being able to see in there this will help me figure out how the control fork connects to the valve. I can't find anything on how this is done.
How is the control fork connected to the valve? I assume I can only do this once the top cover is re-installed? Can it be done by feel, or do I need to take the wheel and fender off for access and visibility?
