3600 rear main bearing replacement

I have a 1977 3600 and want to replace the rod and main bearings. I will split the tractor, remove the flywheel and oil pan. Is it feasible to replace the rear main? It looks tight getting the upper bearing shell out and back in. If there was a hole in the journal I could use a pin and turn the crank. Otherwise I could try a flexible putty knife and see if it will come out at the same turn turning the crank. I can live with a mild leak from the vertical seal strips in the bearing cap. Thanks for any feedback or suggestions.

If you split the tractor. Put the engine on a stand. Flip it over and do it the right way. If you are replacing the bearings, are you going to polish the crank. If the bearings are bad, so is the crank.

“Why is it there is never enough time to do something right, but there is time to do it over?”
