John Deere 70 crankshaft thrust washer thickness

My restored JD 70D with 50 hours on it suddenly developed about an 1/8" of endplay. I am trying to determine if the thrust washer has cracked and busted or if the endplay was just shimmed incorrectly during rebuild by the previous owner. What is the thrust washer thickness of a new washer?

Now I really need help. The taperlock came off easy enough, the thrust retainer came off, and the outer fiber/plastic thrust washer was mangled/melted. I finally got the spacer off and the inner thrust washer was no where to be seen. The spacer has the spiral oil slinger groove cut in it and was starting to gall to the gear. The spacer is a R21624R from a 730 and the thrust retainer is a R21625R from a 730.
I saw that there were no shims under the retainer and it makes me wonder if the previous builder just hammered it all together and destroyed the thrust washers. Do I just need the thrust washers from a 70D and just make sure that end play is set correctly by getting enough shims for the retainer? Does the mix and match setup work?

There's a dowel that drives in to the back side of the flywheel and goes in a groove in the slinger doesn't it? Did somebody forget to put it in that taper lock flywheel? If they did, there was no oil getting slung to lubricate everything.

The key on the taperlock bushing was turning the steel spacer. I just wondering what I need to go with as far as parts since it is a blend of 70 and 730 parts. I'm assuming I still needs the 70 thrusts.

I’d check your thrust washers. I don’t know about on a 70 but on a 730 you can inspect the inside through the hole under the starter.

Clearances between 5-10 thou will tend to wipe out the thrust washers. 10 thou is the ideal minimum clearance with 15 thou as ideal.
