"Help on Next Tractor advice" Revisited!

So most of my implements are gone & my shop looks quite empty, so now I'm looking for that next "somewhat unusual" Ford tractor. I'd like an 861 Elenco, but it would probably be out of my billfold range, so am (kind of) looking for a gas 6000. Anyone know where there might be one?

Boy! That fell flat!! How about a 18x1 Industrial w/live pto & 3 pt? I did find a 6000 wide front LPgas, but too far away!
6000's in LP or gas a few and far between. There was a gasser for sale about an hour away from me several years ago, but I have yet to see one in person. From what I've read, it sounds like they used one of Ford's pickup engines from the early '60's. If that's accurate, maybe an engine could be found and transplanted into a 6000 with a bad engine?
Haven't seen any 1801's for sale lately.

The 233 engine in the 6000 was built 54-64 and used in cars and pickups, I don’t know what parts are available today, but the updraft intake and exhaust manifold are proprietary to the 6000
My brother purchased a 6000 gas parts tractor that the engine had froze a busted, a guy drove several hours to buy the engine just to get the manifolds

215 starting in 1952 and 223- is what it is based on . AFIK there was a diesel version with 242
cu in also. Farm Show magazine had article about a person in Canada putting the 6000 diesel in his Ford Pick up. Achieved fantastic fuel mileage,

Hello Lynn , The 1801 series of Heavy Duty Industrials never used the 5 speed live pto transmission nor did any Ford Industrial for that matter because it is a very weak transmission for Industrial usage . You could get an 1801 with the SOS which is an Independent Pto but that’s about it . Do you currently have or know where you can find the 861 without an Elenco ? That would be a start . I own the Elenco Company and have for about 40 years now . You should find old posts apt Elenco in the archives here if they are still in there . Thanks Tony

Saw a gas 6000 at McFaddens salvage yard about 15 years ago. Only one I've ever seen.

Somewhere, just recently, I saw an ad for a gas 6000. I'll have to try to find it again and post it here.
My oldest son was home for a few days. He says there's a Muir-Hill sitting near Rapid City, SD.

Saw that one, but BOY!!! It's a long way away!! Also found an LP Gas, also a ways away!

Tony, "Hello Lynn , The 1801 series of Heavy Duty Industrials never used the 5 speed."
Thanks. I didn't know that. In my area (Iowa) I don't see 18xx's or Elencos.

If you look at the spline between the Input and main shafts that is where the problem lies . On any tractor for AG use where weight is not the concern like a Loader Backhoe tractor that is what would and does kill the splines . That’s why Ford never used the 5 speeds in the Industrials . I have replaced quite a few over the years and it gets more expensive every time as the good unworn parts get harder and harder to locate . The wear is very similar to the wear on the SOS input shafts which of course I have done 100’s of them . Both transmissions are good for their intended purpose or design and I have one 861 that doesn’t get much use unfortunately . Tony
