Ford 4600 Pitman Arm stuck

TrialAndError

Hey all,
I have a 4600 that I am having a tough time removing the pitman arm on. I’ve tried a 3 jaw puller along with some PB Blaster but it is not budging. I’m having to add a ball to the ball nut as one broke in half so I’m assuming there is no way around not pulling the arm. Are there any secrets that can help me get this off easier?

Added two pictures just to help show what I’m working with.

I would use a pitman arm puller google "OTC (8150) Conical Pitman Arm Puller"
I have at least 6 the reason I have so many I had to modify them for different applications. I can not tell you the one you need you will have to get your hands on one and see how it fits. My OTC seams to work well on Ford pitman arms.

Great to know! I tried one of the Pittsburgh tie rod removers but it was too small. I will get me an OTC and try it out. I appreciate the help!

Get two big hammers, the one one the left is a 2lbs. Place the big one held firmly against the pitman arm where it mounts on the shaft. Then give it several good smacks on the opposite side, real smacks like you’re driving a large spike nail in a wood 4x4. The nut in the photo is your pitman arm. Do this from both sides. Then try your puller again. Screw the nut on the threads so if you miss you don’t bang up the threads.

Your local parts store may have loaner tools. The reason a standard style does not work well is the end of it is to thick to get behind the arm, that's where a conical OTC shines.

I appreciate everyone’s help. I was able to use a combination of all the pointers and get it to pop today. Now time to see what further discoveries I can walk into!
