HP printer prints badly on same lines every time

Good evening:
My HP 7155 fails to print properly on the same lines of text each time it prints the document. Like lines 1, 3 and 5 are good, while 2, 4 and 6 have almost no text showing. The whole document is in black, so it all happens with the same cartridge. Thanks for any help!

Try running the head cleaning procedure.

When it comes time for a replacement, for black and white printouts laser printers are much more trouble free and cheaper to operate than inkjet printers.

Been a while since I had an inkjet.

But didn't HP printers print bi-directionally when in draft (lowest quality, high speed), and single direction in the better quality modes? Could explain the every other line thing if the cartridge/head is getting weak

Check to see in print settings if a low quality print has been selected.

Good evening, again:
Thanks for the suggestions for things to try. That will get me going on troubleshooting this printer. More talk in a few days...

I have had HP, as well as 4 different other "good" brands. The HP worked for 30 cartridges of ink, then would not clean I purchased a Zerox WorkCenter 6027 Color Laser and have saved money, aggravation, and time. It can remain shut off for a month and print perfectly every time. Jim

HP just makes crummy stuff. I've had two of their printers and both didn't last long.
I would have to disagree. My design/build company has had many HP printers/scaners/copiers and E sized plotters ranging from a hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. All worked well in a commercial setting until they wore out after years of heavy use.

I taught CAD for 28 years. I tried various printers and plotters, HP were the best of them. I recently retired my home HP which was 15 years old. No complaints on my part.

That may well have been true 15 to 30 years ago. However, comparing those expensive commercial grade printers made decades ago with today's inexpensive consumer grade all-in-one home inkjet printers is an apples to oranges comparison. Much like comparing a pen-plotter to an inkjet or to a laser printer.

In my classroom we went from pen plotters to inkjets. We had both “home” and commercial printers, results for HP were all good.
I will add we had one Xerox commercial printer. It was a workhorse. But I didn’t mention it because it cost around $4000. Not something most of us can afford.
And again both in my own home and at school my results with HP have been excellent. My current ink tank HP which is now in its 2nd year has worked flawlessly so far.

I've never bought anything commercial grade. I've had two or three different HP computers and a couple printers and none of them lasted more than a year.

I have both an older HP Laserjet and a newer HP Inkjet. Both work well with one BIG exception. The inkjet must be used frequently or the ink cartridges dry out and can't be cleaned. Then it's better to buy a new printer using some store's special pricing rather than ink only.

The thing with specific lines could be the driver. I'd uninstall the printer, update the driver, then run the alignment task. Good luck!

Good evening!
I tried printing my bank statement today; it has small font and closely spaced lines of text. It worked just fine, no problems noted! Thinking ahead, since I know the printer was inactive for a few weeks, maybe the cartridges need replacing (I believe the cartridges in this printer act as the print heads). That is all for now; I may post again after I get new cartridges....
