So Diesel costs an arm and a leg petrol not much less , the country is actually running out of fuel all together and the cost of basic utilities has almost doubled .
Then to top all of this off ; while visiting the cemetry to pay respect to my late father I see this !
Well I suppose at least keeping watch for them doesn't cost anything !🤣

While at the bottom of the Grand Canyon on an overnight permit, my wife got up to "see the river" after dark, and was immediately back in the tent after encountering about 20 canyon rattelers staying warm on a sun heated granite outcrop. A very vertical learning curve on rattler sound. Jim
I read a good article on rattlesnake safety this winter, and most bites are 1/2 hour before sunset and 2 hours after, i was surprised to read that! I hiked the Superstition ridgeline this winter, 12.5 miles, and the last 1/2 mile was in the dark, I had a good headlight and watched carefully!

We were vacationing in Arizona years ago. The ranch had portable black lights for the quests. They went hiking at night and used the lights to spot scorpions. Evidently they glow under black light. We were all up for it until they said, be careful rattle snakes don’t glow. That was it for the wife.

Watched the episode of Yellowstone where Teeter wakes up in her tent with a rattlesnake curled up on her chest. You can almost break into a sweat with her just watching it.utoob has a short of it.

This isn't funny but I got a good laugh out of the remark that rattlesnakes don't glow. I've had a couple of interesting meetings with them when hunting over the years.

Another of my boring stories: Been a couple of decades ago at least so I can't blame it on old age, but I needed to go to the John one night. My body told my mind to get up and go but my body said pfffft. Mind decided to encourage a get-up so it fixed me up with a dream:

The dream: I was cliff scaling a vertical cliff out in W. Tx.(known for Diamond Backs). I started from the top of the cliff with the rope and I would push out, let out some rope, swing back to the face of the cliff, push out and repeat the process as I made my way to the bottom.

Here I am, half way down the cliff, push out, let out some rope, start the swing back in and immediately notice an enclave (detention) in the side of the cliff and a 15 rattle Diamond Back was all coiled up, head erect, rattling at me. Guess what???? I woke up.

I have posted this before, forget where and on one occasion, a responder asked why didn't I let out some more rope and come in below the enclave........I didn't have an answer.....probably because the sight of what I was "fixin" to encounter shocked me so hard that all I could think was to..........get up and go pee! And be thankful it was only a dream.

I grew up around rattlers they don't bother me near as much as copperheads and cottonmouths do if you give a rattler a chance he will run but the others will go out of their way to bite you even chase you. we were volunteering in a state park with 15 teenagers they found one rattler of course I killed it park ranger had a fit, I told him if he wanted the job we were doing done he needed to go back to his office and shuffle papers he said he needed to go back to the office never saw him the rest of the day. we got the job done

I was in the 8th grade and exploring a creek where I was going to school. Came upon a CM and it came after me.....really scared me. Had another time I was fishing a creek; Onion Creek to be exact, South of Austin, Tx.. Had some perch on a 6' or so stringer tied to a belt loop on my jeans. I noticed a jerking sensation at my belt. Looked around and a CM had one of my perch in its mouth trying to run off with it...I could see the perch and the snakes nostrils and eyeballs at the surface. Don't remember how I reacted but I reacted! On another trip to that creek I was wading and one came after me....I went home.

My ' snake tale ' from 2017

I still see her from time to time , she haunts the home paddock wood shed and seems to move in and around it for most of the Autumn and early Winter months .
I dont know how long Tiger snakes live , this happened 9 years ago and she was a full grown adult then . I'm sure it's the same one , she has an odd way of sliding sideways and pausing uncommon to others of her tribe .
