JD model 40 fuel gauge

Because the model 40 JD never came with a fuel gauge, has anyone ever tried to retrofit a fuel gauge on one? Either a mechanical or electric.

Yes, on a JD 440 tractor. Buy a kit at NAPA, drill a hole in the tank and wire it up.

Neither the 6V gas 440i nor the 12V diesel 440iD had a standard or an optional electrical fuel gauge .

It's a universal fuel gauge kit. If NAPA can't find it they are available on line.
