I'd assume the original builder of that barn was quite well-to-do. It seems like a brick barn would be significantly more expensive to build than a post and beam.

Thoughts?
This is not far from Springfield Mn. Springfield was home to ACO silos and produced bricks. This is located on #14 east of Tracy and the area must have had a history of masonry. Tracy, for it’s size, has an impressive amount of brick and stone buildings.

Tracy is not far from the “Little House on The Prairie” where the trees get sparse and is just south of Morton where they deposits of granite supported that industry.
A brick structure no doubt was more investment, but they sure stand nice a century later.

Beautiful old town buildings!

I think the first building pictured might be quartzite. It's gorgeous!
LuVerne, MN and Sioux Falls, SD have lots of beautiful old businesses and homes constructed of quartzite.
