Update on what I been told about MM paint

I have been told Van sickle, Velpar and Tallmans may have stopped making the paint in quarts and gallons. At least PG1. That is why none of these online sellers or parts places have it. Others have said they match up something (like school bus yellow in brand ABC). Some use paint codes for major paint companies. Around me PPG seems to be most prevalent. I know some of these are not fast moving items but just seems odd to me that one simply cannot just order a can of paint in modern online world:rolleyes:. To be fair I know others tractor colors are difficult to get. Guess we have to deal with a wizard, long beard included, in a basement somewhere. Who if he is having a good day can make the correct color!:devilish:

No company ever had PG1. Basically you have to chose your own with chips original. PG1 is more of a yellow color than school bus.

When I was at MMCI show Clint and Kelly Stamm had their sign out for the paint they sell. I don’t know who mixes for them but I hope it isn’t one of the before mentioned companies. Maybe should have discussed that with them.

Last I heard on that was Sherwin Williams.

It is SW. A few years ago their mixer stopped mixing the paint, why I don’t remember. They did find another. I’ve painted two tractors with the SW polyurethane and it has held up very well.
Still get compliments on them. Just don’t start looking real close to find my mistakes

Glad this topic came up. I've got a can of Tallmans that's almost gone. I'll be needing some more of something pretty soon. Not sure yet what to get, or where to get it. As long as it's close in color, that's all that matters to me.

Let me know what you do or end up with.

I have found this metallic copper to be pretty much a close match for the brown on my jet star 3 fuel tank as a sample of old. Paint

Looks good and i have a brown that is close to the dyna brown. But mine is the old yellow, not the jet star.

Two weeks ago I went up to the Stamm's place and purchased an engine from Clint. I asked about paint then. I was able to order PPG-2 and Cherry Red from them. Their supplier sells the Sherwin Williams brand of paint, and it is drop shipped direct to you. I was able to get it in gallon size along with reducer and hardner. It is custom blended and was shipped to me via Fed Ex. If you look them up on Facebook you can get the Stamm's phone number to call.

I too have discovered that Van Sickle and others are no longer making paint. Right now it seems that Stamms is the best way to obtain it. When I was at Clint's the other day I got to see a great paint job on his Moline Cab tractor from the thirties. That is the paint that they ordered for me and had direct drop shipped. I guess the only other way to buy it would be to go to an automotive paint supplier and see if they can blend for you. Paint has increased in price so be ready for a bit of sticker shock!
