2N wiring

Am I correct in thinking that a 2N starts on 6 volts and then runs on a lower voltage through a resistor. If so I am interested in the wiring diagram to show it gets the 6 volts for starting.

There is a resistor on the back side of the dash, when it is cold full current goes to the coil as it warms up from the current passing thru it limits voltage to the coil.

Yes, you are correct.
Cold resistor has ~ 0.3 ohms.
Hot resistor has ~1.5 ohms.

ya, it only starts when I run a wire from battery to coil, once started I can remove wire

Use your ohmmeter to check the cold resistance of the resistor on the junction block for a first step.

And check the voltage at the coil as well.

Loosen all three studs on the resister block. Clean the connections. Spray with contact spray and retighten.
Do the same on the ammeter and starter relay studs. See if that helps.
