FYI. Sams club has their Generac Guardian standby generator on sale until August 18 for $5,499. That is 600 bux off. Free shipping for Plus members which costs 110 bux per year.

22,000 watt LP or 19,500 watt for natural gas. It includes the automatic transfer switch. Wifi enabled.

I don't know what the dealers get but thought someone here may be interested. Of course Sams doesn't install anything.

Never mind. After checking around there are probably better deals out there. Sorry. I'd delete this if I could.

Installation and warranty issues would be big on this.

I had an 18KW unit installed a year ago. I could have gotten a 10% military discount from Lowes, but Lowes doesn't install, either. I contacted a company 60 miles away who would have installed and serviced it. BUT a strong Generac dealer located 6 miles from my house was a bit higher on the price on the unit, but lower on installation, plus handy for even routine servicing. The price came to a tossup, and I naturally went with the Generac dealer.

Generac has not impressed me with their product by the parts for dads portable PTO driven Generator and From the posts on this site I would not be getting one either . I'd look for something else with better parts availability.

Installed a 22kw LP Generac Guardian generator 4 years ago at our country get away place. in that time, the rotor and stator had to be replaced. More recently it threw a valve stem. First problem covered totally under warranty. Second problem only parts were covered which was a new engine. Just FYI.

Forgot to mention that the 22KW is air cooled. At home we have a 27 KW water cooled natural gas Generac that has not had any issues. It ran for 3 weeks during hurricane power outag.

I think engines are designed to run long enough to get hot and remove any condensation inside the engine or mothball them with spraying on inside the engine.
The worst thing I done was retiring my 1953 Jubilee and occasionally starting it for a few minutes.
The oil was full of rust from condensation. My #4 exhaust valve stuck open. rust.
I took the Jubilee out of retirement and mowed my yard with it while the Kubota took a ride to the dealer.
I think backup generators are designed to run occasionally. Not sure if they run long enough to get rid of condensation inside the engine.
You said it threw a valve stem like my Jubilee had a stuck exhaust valve. Use the internal combustion engines or lose them.
This Fall I'll take the mower off the Kubota and put in on the Jubilee. I may mow the yard the last time for 2024 and the first time in 2025 before putting it back on the Kubota.

I don't know but would guess and think that Generac is using aluminum engines.

Bumping this old thread because I’m looking at the same Generac model now. For those who grabbed it back in '24, how’s the reliability been?

I almost pulled the trigger but got paranoid about the gas flow capacity. Had Wolf River Electric swing by to check my panel and setup first—honestly, glad I did. They’re super chill and didn't try to upsell me on a bigger unit, just gave me the facts on the gas line. Sometimes the install prep is more important than the actual generator price.

I have seen the cost of the required additional capacity gas line add to the cost. Modern gas service lines have an excess flow valve in the line. It's designed to detect a broken gas line in the home and shut off the gas. A large backup generator can often trip this valve. If you shut off gas flow to the house it should reset. It works like the one in small propane tanks.

I bought my 11kW General in Feb. 2014 with switch and had it drop shipped to the farm. It came with a set of installation instructions. I installed it and had the power co. check to ensure that the switch was disconnected from the power lines when the generator is supplying power.....when the power co. isn't. Had the local Propane co. drop off a tank, fill it, and connect it to the unit.
It runs 15 minutes every week automatically and is disconnected from the "load" during the weekly run. Purpose is to prevent what's being discussed here and to keep the battery topped off.
Over the years I had one problem which was an oil filter that was leaking where the mounting flange ind the outer shell connect....the oil filter was a typical off the shelf unit....forget the name.

A stand by generator, tied to public service gas, sounds less than wise, sissy. Figure, no power, but count on the gas? Minnesota thinking. Petrol, diesel, or tractor mounted are readily available, proven, self contained. Ain,t ya already got a tractor, or 3?

What does "public service gas" have anything to do with no power? If your "public service gas " has a problem when the power goes out you have more of a problem than, No power"!! Sissy

The installation materials can add significant cost. We purchased a used Kohler 24kw water cooled unit a couple of years ago and I did the install. The electrical wire and gas line came to about $1,000. Most of that was the gas.

I,ll explain. Assume he has no gas well. Generator is to supply power when utilities fail. Only useful if ANOTHER utility is in service. Here, bad and narrow minded to assume! Loss of power due to an errant tree, he,d have power. Loss of power due to other trouble off his land and dark with public utility gas, watching his MTV if power from HIS tractor, His fuel tank, et cetera. Relying on utility gas is like demanding a gaurd on a table saw, that only protects left handed people. Go big, or go home! Simple. Post script. A guy , above, posted that he spent a Grand, mostly on a gas line. His fight. That bread could have payed for a petrol or diesel tank and part of a fill up. His Tank, His stored energy for His power. See now how a Generack, dependent or somebody else to supply gas is good for sissies? OK to plan stuff out!

That's a very easy one. First check on driver. If AFtER delivery, driver will handle it. If before delivery, move to Minnesota with the well fare state scammers . They buy a smart phone like a sissy, or jail bait chick.
