2130 tractor suddenly won't start...

My 2130 just suddenly refused to turn on. I called JD and they said it's a pretty simple starter system, and that it's probably the starter. Well, after going through hours of agonizing pain changing the starter (that's another story with that bottom bolt), the tractor [i:a25602cf4e]still[/i:a25602cf4e] won't start. So, I'm absolutely stumped. When I turn the key, the lights come on, batteries are good, but there's zero turn-over. Nada. Nothing.

What could have happened?

More than likely neutral start switch located under cowling that gearshift levers protrude through on open station model isn't making contact. Sometimes one can remove a sealing washer or 2 to attain better contact inside switch or just replace switch.

AT85153 SWITCH,NEUTRAL START ADD 39.89 USD

You could of saved yourself some expense and agony by doing some simple troubleshooting! Run a set of good jumper cables
directly from the battery to the starter, first making sure it's in neutral.

Yes, you're right. Sadly, I talked to a JD tech who gave me some steps to test, which led me to believe it was the starter. We were wrong.

Alright, I'll look into this, thanks.

Next question: I was unable to get the bottom bolt in on the new starter. Physically impossible because the casing blocks the special tool I'm using. So, I sawed the head off of a bolt and screwed it in as a stud. But the question I have is there going to be a leak of some sort through the bottom since it's not snugged at that point by a nut? Or is this a dry gear area?

Is the solenoid being energized when the key is turned to start ? Unless the solenoid is signalled to pull the drive in and close the motor contacts . 10 starters can be swapped and non will function .
Key switch and neutral switch come to mind . Need to take your multimeter and find the open contact .

Well, this is unbelievable. There is a cable running underneath the shift cover that is a simple connection. My foot must have pulled it out. 5 minute fix. Oy. Worst of all, I had to call a JD tech to come analyze it this morning. About $1k in total for this simple mishap.

Thank you for the update we appreciate it . Most of the time the poster never lets us know the final results .
