Generac Guardian standby generator on sale

I like the newer Inverter generators where the 60 cycle frequency is made by electrons, that way the speed, RPM of the engine, only needs to run fast enough to put out the power needed for load being used.

There was a guy on the forum from Texas that was the go to generator repair guy most of his life. No longer with us. He did not like Generac.
Yes If I recall correctly, he was very ademant about poor parts availability AND poor initial quality. I do not recall his handle but generjunk was a word he used, I seem to rmember. gobble

I have a relative who installs & repairs whole-house generators by Kohler and Generac.
....He has to attend factory service schools to maintain being a dealer.

He tells me that the quality of Generac units has improved greatly over past years while the quality of Kohler has declined.

I think the former member mentioned above was Billy Shaffer? ....I believe he preferred ONAN products and did not have anything good to say about Generac.

I have a small, Pulsar (4,000W) dual-fuel inverter genset, That fits my needs at our house. It will power the refrigerators, freezers and furnace, TV w/dish, and run on one 20# cylinder for 24hrs. A friend owns/operates an LP supply business; he'll re-fill my 20# cylinders within 4 hrs of dropping them off at his office, even on Sunday if I call with an emergency.
Our electricity goes off about once a year, and then from 1-3 days. We're on REMC.
If we need to cook/bake, our MH is 100' from the house in a garage.

The installation materials can add significant cost. We purchased a used Kohler 24kw water cooled unit a couple of years ago and I did the install. The electrical wire and gas line came to about $1,000. Most of that was the gas.
As stated, most of mine was gas too as I had to buy a tank, have it filled with Propane, and have a gas co. employee connect it to the unit.....aka dig a trench and bury a line with regulators on both ends....high flow at the tank and regular flow at the unit. I don't remember.....$1k probably covered it plus the Propane.....but that was amortized over many years as power doesn't go off over long periods here and the 15 minute run once a week is unloaded so there isn't much HP required to do that hence not much gas consumed annually.

But I'll tell you this: Having power when the utility is off and who knows when it will be restored, and not having to get out the portable unit and half a dozen extension cords, usually during bad weather, is........................PRICELESS!!!!!!!

I don't intend to disparage the dead, but I think Billy had his own personal vendetta against Generac. He worked as an independent repairing generators, and I'm assuming Generac was not cooperative with parts and technical infor to protect their own dealers, as well they should. I ran into the same situation with Chrysler when I was in the boat and outboard motor repair business as an independent. Mercurfy and OMC would sell me parts at the same 36% discount given their franchise dealers, Chrysler wouldn't. If I needed an OEM Chrysler part I had to go to a dealer and pay full retail like anyone else off the street. And the nearest Chrysler dealer was an old gourch on a good day. I just shrugged it off.
