MD injector nozzle question....

Were the nozzles in that series of engine all interchangeable i.e. will a set from a 450 work in a UD6, for example.

Thanks!

Mike

Update:

I found the PN hiding on the nozzle body. It's 46578DA & the pre-cups are 53567D so it would be for an MD built before SER#14500. Guessing they would also cover the TD6, ID6 & UD6?

There were the original orifice type that had the injector lines coming in at the 9 o'clock position. They had different orifice plate hole diameters for different sized engines. The late 400 and 450 machines went to an open face injector design that have the injector lines coming in at the 10:30 o'clock position. They are interchangeable as a set with different lines, but not on an individual basis as it will make the engine run uneven. They must be a matched set.

My SMD had 450 style injectors installed at some point in its life. It definitely adds more hp but makes the engine idle crappier. If you watch any 450 diesel videos on youtube with them not working, you can hear what I'm talking about.
I had a 450 D way back in 69 thru 74 . She was like all my tractors she had issues and a learning curve . When done she purred like a kitten smooth no flutter and i had it making pony power . won many tractor pulls with that old tractor , stunned one of the best I H mechanic's in the area on just how much i could get out of it . For everyday farm operation she was running over 70 Hp. And twist of a screw we could push into the 90 Hp. range and did so many times like blowing silage up a 80 footer . Dumbest mistake i made was selling it and getting a 460 Farmall . With the 450 and a set of 540 semi mounts in corn ground if i wanted to i could run forth gear T/A ahead in old sod third . Ya wanted to count the rounds made pulling a two row chopper by the smoke lines around the field in second in good corn . On a warm night at the pulls where skeeters were thick one pull down the track cleared them for the rest of the night . Wish i had kept it S/N of the 450 was 25806 . Sold it to a y7oung guy over in Pa. and it came back into Ohio at some point in time and i saw again at a farm near N. Lima when i delivered a 370 Disc to the guy . asked if he wanted to sell it and he said NO it runs to good .

Was the 460 replacement at least a diesel? I heard they can do a little more work for all the fuel they go through.
