Last year I bought what appears to be a "clapped" out ford backhoe. It worked, and the gentleman claimed he serviced all the fluids recently. The hoses need to be replaced, the hydraulic cylinders need to be repaired or replaced, and the idea was to repair the machine as I go and use it for earthwork on my homestead and eventually I'll have a better machine than I could afford new.
Fast forward to yesterday I was driving up a sight incline and lost locomotion. To be honest the transmission was stuck in gear since I got it and I used the forward and reverse lever to make due until I got around to repairing it, and I think the machine decided I'd repair it now.
The hydraulics appeared to continue to work but I shut it down fairly quickly after verifying that. It appeared to be leaking Milky, contaminated fluid from the weep hole close to the engine. Looking briefly online I'm seeing that I may have blown a seal that requires splitting the tractor to replace.
My question is does that sound right, and if I'm splitting the tractor to replace the seal what other services should I be doing while I'm in there. I understand splitting a tractor isn't something to be taken lightly and can be dangerous if not done correctly.
The casting appears to read d50111 (which doesn't appear valid), and it appears to have the 5 speed transmission.
