Maybe the ring gear on the flywheel is on backwards?hello friends , I have a 1963 Ford 2000 and the starter keeps eating the gear that spins one the fly wheel it will break the gear on the starter into pieces,it has done it twice , can someone tell me what avenue I need to take to get it fixed thanks Bill
there is a place a ways from me that rebuilds starters ,Where are you getting the new gears or starters? Do you have the original to count the teeth on it? Has it had other work done that could contribute to the problem?
a mechanic put a new flywheel on , because the old one was worn outMaybe the ring gear on the flywheel is on backwards?
thanks I will let the Mackinac know what you saidMaybe the ring gear on the flywheel is on backwards?
I had a friend do the work for me , the starter was the original one, the problem was the new item that was put on the end , it wouldn't disengage, and it would make a loud grinding noise , then that gear would break right off, !!Before installing did you compare them side by side and note any differences? Was the starter causing the problems the original starter that had been rebuilt or was it a "new" replacement?
Not positive on your tractors starter but there are differences in the number of teeth on many replacement bendix assemblies, put the wrong one on and it will break things.I had a friend do the work for me , the starter was the original one, the problem was the new item that was put on the end , it wouldn't disengage, and it would make a loud grinding noise , then that gear would break right off, !!
