Maybe the ring gear on the flywheel is on backwards?

Where are you getting the new gears or starters? Do you have the original to count the teeth on it? Has it had other work done that could contribute to the problem?

Normally the taper on the ring gear teeth are on the front side of the flywheel, but on those tractors the bendix engages from the rear and the taper on the ring gear needs to be facing the back

ok friends , my friend brought over a starter from a jubilee , and the tractor started right up there was no grinding , so I'm happy now everyone thank you for the help! Bill

Before installing did you compare them side by side and note any differences? Was the starter causing the problems the original starter that had been rebuilt or was it a "new" replacement?

I had a friend do the work for me , the starter was the original one, the problem was the new item that was put on the end , it wouldn't disengage, and it would make a loud grinding noise , then that gear would break right off, !!

Not positive on your tractors starter but there are differences in the number of teeth on many replacement bendix assemblies, put the wrong one on and it will break things.
