International 574 new power steering pump. Lines dont fit?

Hello all, first post. Long story short i bought a new power steering pump from our above sponsors however the line orientation and length are different from the original pump. Not a big deal. Question is what have any of you done to rectify the problem? Should i get hydraulic lines made to connect to the factory hard line and run to the pump or should i run new hydraulic lines from the center of tractor to the pump? Interested in everybodys advice. Thank you!

Well frankly I would’ve got my pump rebuilt or got the correct pump but I have considered putting that new style pump on one of the older ones. I have cut and welded those steel lines and have also replaced them with hydraulic hoses

Considered the rebuild but it exceeded the price of a new one and there are no reputable people where im at. Essentially im going to go the new hydraulic line route just dont know if i should have small ones made to attach to the metal lines or run hydraulic lines from pump to other end of metal lines.

Exceeded the price but now time and hoses or modifications to existing lines. I would get hoses made to replace those lines, if not you’re going to have very short pieces and adds more connections up under there and possible leaks. Not the easiest place to get to.

I agree all day with you but it was other peoples decision im just doing the work. My tractor is 2 hours away so i dont have easy access to look at stuff. Would you happen to know how long of hydraulic hose id need and size to properly do the job?

id send the pump out some where to get rebuilt if there isn't a place nearby, who cares if it exceeds the price of a new one , at least it will go back in with no modifications of the lines ,

So other people bought/ or received the wrong pump and will not correct the problem. Have short hoses made to adapt the pump to steel lines. Sure doesn't say much about Parts ASAP either.

Strange.. I never heard of anyone replacing pump when I worked at IH dealer many years ago but did have problems with leaks which required new seals fitting

The internals in this pump were so worn the steering wheel could go any direction almost an inch. I wish it was just an upper shaft seal. Regardless I appreciate everybody’s responses but I’m in a position now I have to run hydraulic lines. I’m going to go from
One end of the hard lines to the other end “pump”. I have to get them made of course. Would anybody have a rough idea on length and diameter of hoses I would need? I brought home the fittings out of old pump so I assume the hose ends shouldn’t be an issue on fit at all hydro shop. Thankyou

Hose ends shouldn’t be a problem. Sorry I can’t help you on the length, would be best for you to do it yourself anyway. The original pumps aren’t for the faint of heart, they are timed and can be messed up real quick. I sent an original out for rebuild a year ago, $600

I think without knowing how long those lines are I’ll just get like a 4” hose for all 4 pipes. As for the fittings do they need any sealant or seals? Also what psi rating and hose diameter? 1/4”? Sorry for all the questions just I absolutely have to have this thing running and when I get to the location of this tractor there isn’t a store within an hour so I kind of can’t run in to any more surprises haha. (Wish I was really laughing). Thank you all so much!

Buy longer hoses than needed, you can always install them with a small loop in the center; but buying too short is a one and done deal.

Fittings are flare fittings, I’m not sure what size but no sealant. I think 1/4” hose should work , 3000 psi hose. 4 ft should be plenty, probably 3 would be fine but in your situation go with 4’. It’s gonna be a mess with all that hose and not a lot of room but you gotta do what you have to.

This is bothering me so I will have to mention it….. could the free play in steering wheel be caused by wear in the steering ram and linkage at front of tractor
This used to be a fairly common problem with loader tractors which were not maintained and under pressure tyres and turning steering wheel while tractor was stationary

Getting my lines made tomorrow. Would anybody happen to know how long the lines roughly are?
Just FYI, there are compression type fittings that will clamp down on standard sizes of hydraulic lines which would then allow you to just use short hoses to adapter your lines to the new dash steering unit. At one time if the NAPA store made hydraulic lines they carried them. I am sure any good hydraulic repair shop would also have them. Do a web search for “hydraulic compression fittings” if you want to give them a quick look. Also, when installing them the tube need sanded down to bare metal.

Appreciate the advice. Essentially have 3 options here. I still think im going to get 4" hoses made. Also get 16-18" long hoses made. Reasoning is i dont know what im going to run in to here. Rather be prepared. On the end of the fitting where it goes in the pump, theres like a tiny rubber flat seal. Are those necessary? One fell off in the barn
