Hydraulic cross shaft.

On my Super 55 I am looking to replace a cross shaft seal. What would be the best way to remove this seal? With the hydraulic housing still bolted down, I don't believe the shaft comes out..

Drill the seal, stick a screw (or two) in it, pry, rinse repeat till it's out.
What scooter said. Long #10 self tappers work the best. Run them in. Put a pair of vice grips on the screw head and use them to pry against. Usually have to do 2 screws 180 from each other.

I made a tool from an old screwdriver to pull the brake seals from my 1550. I heated the tip and bent a 1/4 inch of the end to 90 deg. Grind what was the tip to fit the curve of the metal shield then grind the back side till it fits between the shaft and shield. Push it into the rubber, hook the shield and use a prybar from the shaft end to the screwdriver handle's shoulder. I was surprised how easily they came out. Can't find the picture but you may if you search my old posts around Sept. to Oct. 2025.

On my 550 I used a hydraulic jack to push the shaft one way then the other. I had to replace the seals and bushings on it. Oil would just run out when I filled it up.

Basically, I think while installing the seal you might want to apply some real thin tape over the splines on your shaft to prevent the seal from becoming damaged?
