Going to look at a Terra Track GT-30 tomorrow. Don’t have great pictures of it but looks like it’s got a fixed angle straight dozer blade (really wish it had a manual angle blade) it’s also got a (Factory?) winch installed which I gather was a fairly rare option. Do these winches run off hydraulics? I know some of these crawlers came with a 3pt hitch but I don’t believe they had a PTO output? Anyway what should I look out for. I gather the engine is a continental F140 those should be easy enough to get parts for so I’m not too worried about that. Sounds like the undercarriage is pretty much unobtainium so I guess I should try to look at the rollers but I imagine they are hard to assess with the tracks on. I can’t seem to find any specs to use to measure to check wear, but I mean it’s 75 years old I’m sure it’s well worn. Currently needs a radiator so I can’t test anything but the owner assures me it drove, steered, stopped well. Who knows. I think I can pick it up cheap enough to take the gamble.
How capable were these things? I know it’s quite small and I can’t and don’t expect it to be a D4. But I’ve always wanted one of these little old dozer/crawlers. How do they do in mud? I have a lot of nasty patches on my property. I’d like to use it to clean up around the steer feeder which gets quite swampy I also have a network of old logging roads on my property I’d love to restore. They haven’t been used in probably 30 years and were left a mess by whoever did the logging. There’s not many trees bigger than 3-4” but there’s deep ruts and a general mess. I’d love to turn this all back into passable roads by a farm vehicle. Is this a task suited to one of these little guys?
