Case ck 580

Hello, I have about a 60’s to early 70’s case ck 580, 4 cylinder gas engine, shuttle shift on steering column. The engine seems froze up, I have the head off. When I bump the starter, the two outer pistons want to move. I’ve soaked the cylinders with acetone and atf still no movement. I’m curious if there is something about this tractor I’m over looking? I’ve had the rear wheels up, put it in gear, but after I turn the rear wheels it doesn’t seem at all in gear. When I drained the oil pan, there was some water but not much, it seems the head gasket was allowing some water in, any advice would be appreciated

It could be a case-o-matic drive which is a torque converter so there will be no tie to the engine til its running. It there a lever left of the steering wheel similar to the throttle on the right?

It has a typical gas pedal for the throttle, it has a shift lever to the left, of the steering wheel, I believe it’s shuttle shift,

Forgive my ignorance but is this an overhead valve engine? If it's valve in block you could have a stuck valve preventing you from turning the engine. Or a some how locked up cam shaft, stuck bearings or broken teeth on cam gear.

I’ve removed the head, valves and rocker, could be a locked up cam shaft

If you jacked up both rear tires the differential side gears and spiders are just going to spin. One tire will turn the opposite direction of the other. If you want to turn the engine with the tire, keep one tire on the ground and have the shifter in a high gear. That's assuming you don't have a Case-O-Matic.

they have a shuttle shift on their backhoes

Here’s a pic of the gear shifter

Assuming there is rust present in the two cylinders that the piston won't move and frozen, try putting a plate of steel 1/4" or thicker, small enough to fit flat on top of the piston. Then take an air hammer and vibrate the piston. Another place to turn the motor over is at the ring gear at the starter. Take the starter off and use a good, flat ended, 3 plus ft long steel bar and work the flywheel back and forth.

Thanks for the advice, I’ve tried that one, can’t get it to budge, i have a air hammer, ill give that a try next, thanks

After you’re done breaking the piston let us know. I rebuilt mine about 15 years ago. Wish I could have purchased a single piston/sleeve at the time. Have three piston/sleeve sets with 100 hrs on them. Water in an engine is never a good thing.

Your right about water not
Being a good thing, so bought the tractor for a hundred bucks, and I’ve revived engines in worse shape so I decided to take a chance
