Good evening:
I have a Craftsman #29751, 3/8 inch, 3-jaw chuck that is all apart. Can someone refer me to an instruction video that tells how to re-assemble it? Thanks much!!

Hello, old_bc: The referenced material was some help, but my chuck is not from a lathe, but is a 3/8" drill chuck, so I need some of the details for my exact model. Somebody will read this that knows of a website showing my exact chuck......

I could not find anything about the assembly/disassembly of the chuck but there is a lot of info about removing and reinstalling the
the chuck on Google.

The one time I had one apart the outer sleeve was pressed on over a ring. The ring was in two halves and magnetized to stay in place and internally threaded. Trick was to get the jaws in the correct order so they close together. Press the sleeve on with the jaws and ring assembled.

Thanks for the informative reply!! I am at the stage where I need to decide how to press the sleeve over the geared ring. Will a vise do this? Another thought, I have a 1/2 inch drill press which may stand in as a press?? (Leaving the motor turned off!). Again, thanks for the reply!

Thats exactly how I have done it. Make sure jaws are all the way closed and exactly lined up. A good vice for a press and a big socket that fits over the end of chuck should allow careful pressing. I have to wonder why that small chuck was taken apart & why it wasn't put back together if it's any good. I would usally repair Jacobs chucks only 1/2" and up because new repair kits were available. The small 1/4 and 3/8 chucks off wore out power tools ended up in the "Never Used Again Drawer". Sometimes I would take cheap chucks (junk) off new power drill to upgrade with nice Jacobs chucks.

That may work if it's a good solid table. I doubt the common HF types would be rigid enough.

Good evening:
Today I was able to push the sleeve over the geared ring. To apply the pressure, I found a 6 inch C-clamp, and a socket that fit over the chuck and applied pressure to the gear. The C-clamp was sufficient to press things together! A big washer was enough to let the C-clamp press against the end of the sleeve without touching the inner "shank". End of story, I think. Thanks to folks who contributed their comments!
