Brother and I were having a stick horse competition jumping plant rows in the garden when mother came out with a switch. We escaped but naturally showed up before supper. Dad asked "why did you boys run from your momma". Brother said "it wasn't our fault dad, that big-ol switch spooked our horses".

My family is Euopean , wild , unpredictable and emotional as well .
I have an enduring memory of my aunt chasing my cousin and I.
Wild eyed , swearing at us in unintelligible dialect , scarf on her head , a boning knife between her teeth , clambering over the locked six foot high side gate, looking for all the world like a buccaneer !
I was ten at the time , terrified and yet laughing so hard at that surreal and bizarre spectacle that I could hardly keep ahead of her !

well mom was the fly swatter queen, if you seen her going for it and made it then mom would give it about 5 mins and stand on the front porch and yell you got to come home for supper sometime  .

Mom with the wooden spoon, dad with the razor strap. Made the mistake of running from dad, only once. He was a lot quicker than extimated.

I can't remember mom and dad spanking us.
They gave us that "look", how disappointed they were.
I would have much rather opted for the whippen.
Agree. I recall one or two spankings in my life. Our dad wore a striped "engineers cap". When really frustrated he would take it off and swat our backsides while muttering. "I can't believe one of my kids could be that dumb!"
If you got in trouble at school the worst fear was that your parents would find out about it. More for the shame than any corporal punishment at home.

One time my Mom tried to hit me with a broom and I grabbed it out of her hands and snapped it in half. She started bawling and said “Wait until your Dad gets home” and stormed off. Well, my Dad gets home and she tells him what happened. He looked at me grabbed me by the collar and outside we went. I thought he was about to tear my behind up, all he said was “Next time just let her hit ya, it’s a lot easier for both of us”. That was that.

Oh, I had to buy a new broom, Ha!

my mother wasn't much of a disciplinarian, but my father made up for her lack. His favorite tool was his closed fist. It worked OK for him until one day he lost his steam and then the tables turned.

That's a good one.

WE didnt run. Running meant twice the punishment!
EXACTLY......Then she would tell Dad and we'd be in even bigger trouble!!
My Mom would sometimes make my younger brother and I go out and cut our own "switches".
The "switching" didn't appear to leave any lasting scars; either physical or mental. LOL
It did make us behave....for a while anyway.

I made our kids cut their own switches and if it wasn't a good one then I'd go cut one they soon learned to cut ones that I would use because they didn't want me to cut one
