Question bout my 40 B Farmall

I have never adjusted a B but I am pretty sure it is like my Super As.
There is an opening in the underside of the torque tube near the pedal. A threaded rod with 2 locking nuts can be adjusted to lengthen the rod to allow more or less free pedal play. I'm guessing.the free play should be approximately 1.5 inches. Some one will correct me if I am wrong.

What do you mean by ''the engine is locked''. If the engine won't turn over that is a different problem.
As for the clutch you should have 1 1/2 inch free play measured at the top of the pedal. So you need to adjust one way or the other to get that amount of free play.
If the engine won't turn over it could be that the starter is jammed into the ring gear or the valves or pistons are stuck.
Let us know so we can help you further.

Engine stuck?? You might have more serious issues than just clutch adjustments. Hopefully starter like DaveBN suggested.

Loosen the starter mounting bolts. Put the tractor in high gear. Make sure the ignition switch is off. Manually rock the tractor back and forth by pushing/pullinvlg on a rear tire. If you hear a pop sound as the tractor moves a little the starter will have freed itself.

A better idea of why you feel the clutch needs adjusting might help.

Not finding any problem with the suggestions but some back ground on the condition of the tractor would be nice!

DAVE BY SAYING, THE ENGINE IS LOCKED, I MEAN IF I TRY TO HAND CRANK IT AS IT HAS NO STARTER, AND IT STARTS, IT WOULD RUN ME DOWN. ILL CHECK THAT PEDAL SPACING. THANKS

OUTA COURISITY U A KANSAN. IF SO, SO WAS I FOR 40YRS. I WAS DISCING WITH IT WITH A 8FT HORSE DISC. I CAME TO THE END OF MY GARDEN, AND IT WOULDNT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. WHENEVER I HAND CRANKED IT AND IT STARTED, ID HAVE TO HOLD THE CLUTCHIN FOR AROUND A MINUTE BEFORE i COULD SHIFT

If you can crank it over by hand and it were to start and run you over -- The engine is not locked!! If it was locked you would not be able to turn it with the crank.

It sounds more like your shift lever got out of place and transmission is locked in a gear.

With the engine off can you shift it into neutral so you can crank it over without the tractor moving?

Seems very possible you could be locked in a gear. The end of the gearshift often wears and can get out of the tracks.

, I dont remember if I tried that after it died. Ill try it tomorrow. 60yrs ago I had a 20 that did the same thing. I took the shifter lever plate and got it working again, But for the life of me, I dont remember what I did. Im 78 now and memories slipping a bit

Went out tried to put the B in N Both with the clutch in and out. NO GO.. Im assuming ill find adjustment on the clutch rod AFTER I remove the pan underneath the floor board. That right???

You need to tell us everything, not just snippets, we are not there with you.

Was the engine running? It sounded like you couldn't crank it over before.

Saying you tried to put it in N (meaning neutral?), and it was NO GO; again, it sounds like it is stuck in gear. If it is not running use of the clutch really should not matter. If that is the fact, you need to take the shifter plate off and move the gears to free it up. Clutch adjustment will not fix it if it is stuck in a gear.

If the clutch pedal free play needs adjusting my first post at the top.of the page tells where the adjustment can be made.
