Tiller was not factory installed.Would this have been factory ? Or added on later? I know nothing about this tractor I just got it from my father in law and am going to restore it.
Tillers are pretty rare. You need to find the tiller that goes on your tractor since you have parts for it.Tiller was not factory installed.
The item with the holes is a link that raises ans lowers the tiller using the same cylinder that raises and lowers the mower deck. Holes adjust tilling depth i believe.
Mower deck has to be fastened in the raised position.

What engine does it have? They came with a Kohler twin that was problematic. JD issued a kit to swap in an Onan.What is this ? To me it almost looks like one end of a 3 point hitch. It’s an 82 John Deere 317
Based on the serial number I think it has the series 2 kohler that corrected the oiling issues however I haven’t verified yet. Even if it has the series 1 not a huge issue as we have zero hills or embankments to cause an oiling issue where uneven ground caused a problemWhat engine does it have?
