Farmall 404

looking at a 404 to use in the garden and just wondering is it a newer version of a 200 and will the wide front end from other Farmall's fit on it.
this tractor has hydraulics on the front and the rear so if it has enough power it could be pretty handy, give me the good and bad please, thanks.

The 404 was the last of the small 2 row tractors IH built . The super c and 200 or 230 would be my pick . The 240 and 404 sit to low and are more difficult to see the crop you are cultivating . The super c and 200 have the largest parts supply because there were thousands built . I have a few 404's and while they have a few improvements like 3 point and maybe powersteering they are not what I thought they would be

When I was a kid I operated the neighbors 404 for him in cultivator season. I never sat on a worse gear grinding rig in my life. gm

Handy little tractor. Tractor data.com has info about them. Is this tractor the Farmall model or the International model. Power steering was an option on them and if no power steering I would not put a loaded on it. Would be perfect for gardening. Far as wide front axle, I believe a 240, 230, 200 and super C would fit as would the 424 and 444. For garden work the narrow front would turn shorter and would be my choice

The 240 and 404 came in both a Farmall and Utility version. The Farmall versions are essentially upgraded/improved versions of the Farmall C. There are some model-specific parts on the 240 and 404 that will be rare and impossible to find. Hydraulic oil filters for starters.
