Water well Pumps

I have 25 deep water well pumps and more than that of the shallow water well pumps-----Yeah I know I have a little problem. I can test the shallow ones by dropping a hose in a barrel of water. On the deep water ones I plug the bottom hole and install a hose on the impeller side and drop the hose in a barrel of water. I can get the pumps to pump all kinds of amounts of water, but not building enough pressure to turn off. I also use a pressure tank on them. Any ideas for me----do I need the jet on the bottom hole to make a good test??? On those deep water pumps the jet is down in the well. These are on 2 inch wells.....Just trying to test them without hooking up to a well....

I have wondered the same thing. I have a vertical deep well jet pump. It is brand new I bought at a yard sale. I tried to hook it up to a tank to use as a booster pump but it only will put out about 30 psi. It came with the jet but I didn't use it, I just plugged the outlet that would go to the jet. Years ago at a ranch where I worked I remember seeing a similar pump hooked up to a jet right at the tank. That system seemed to provide full pressure.

My question is kind of related. I have a farm with a fairly deep well (60 Ft) way up on a hill with a submergable pump. A pressure tank / new pressure switch in the house basement. We want to water the garden but seem like the pressure drops to where a oscillating sprinkler just stops and sits dribbling in one spot for a lot of the time. Sometimes it will pick up and sprinkle as it should, but forget about using more than one. The other day when it was dribbling I looked and pump was running but maintaining just 30 PSI. I know my switch is set on 50-90 PSI range. What is going on? Am I pumping the well down or dry or is the pump not working right? We were concerned about the capacity/output of the well at one time but it seems to work okay with the present set up. A lot of "HIGH WATER USERS" are moving into the surrounding area so I worry about them lower-ing the water table for everyone else???
