I am having difficulties getting the oil rings in the groove. I ordered the ring set from Steiner, and the 3-ring set is too thick to install in the groove. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to do is to check with where you purchased them from, Steiner, to see if others have reported problems. They could be the wrong oil rings. Best to check with them before breaking or modifying something and lose the chance to return them.

This site and its parent company PartsASAP, which provides this Forum site, sell parts.

Edit to correct spelling.

Some people will put different pistons in check that as well I think there’s a casting number on the original pistons

I know my machinist likes aluminum pistons in them and has to get the rings for them. I’m not as sold on it myself but the last one wasn’t my decision.
