1950-51 8N whim purchase **OH BOY! IM IN TROUBLE**

Your cast iron carb might be able to be freed up soaking in distilled vinegar. If you are set on running that aluminum carburetor you would be best off tearing I down and drilling all the passages to match the cast iron one. I did that to my aluminum carb'd 40 with a borrowed cast iron carburetor and it ran normal. Check the jets also, I had to open up one or two of them.
 
update, so i spent all morning messing around and the carb kept flooding...spark was fine...everything was fine she would try to start then flood....i finally gave up and LISTEND to you good folks in this thread and my messages and i cleaned the carb it came with...i was trying to remove variables and at least i knew it DID run on that carb...omg the jets were clogged and the whole carb was full of rust....a can of brake cleaner and carb cleaner helped...i also took apart my amazon carb and the jet def seems to be bigger then whats supposed to be on there,,thank you to whom pointed that out...well now she purrsssss... i apprecate all the help onto next steps of doing trans fluid....also i took steel wool to the serial number and we got .....

SERIAL #8N376768 STAR so shes a 1951!!!!


1951 Serial number 343593 - 442034 Engine cylinder sleeves changed at ser. 433578 to cast iron material with .090" wall thickness. Many older engines were rebored at overhaul time to use these new cast iron sleeves.

Someone suggested that you remove that knob off of the steering wheel but didn't explain why. If you are running through some high weeds and the front tires strike a rock, the tires will be knocked to one side or the other. This will transfer the motion up to the steering wheel and cause it to jerk one way and the other. You can guess why that knob will be a hazard.

When you grip the steering wheel, don't grip it like you're choking a snake. In other words don't wrap you thumbs around the wheel rim. Keep them outside of it.

I wish I could the Amzon carb is on its way back to amazon...the carb that came with the tractor had a jet so small it used the smallest of the jet wire cleaners..

got it! ok I will pull it off tommrow when the rain stops...this moring i drained all the trans/hydro fluid...it wasnt easy getting those caps off as they were painted on.. I found some metal in the magnet ooopppss...but probably not enought to effect anything... i got my new PTO shaft so ready to put that in tommrow...then fill the fluid back up....
 
missing my trans drain plug gaskets they are in the mail delayed...so today i put in the new PTO shaft and seal...hopefuly this was the major leak that had the fluid low....fingers crosses...looking forward to butting her up filling her full of fluid and taking her for a test drive!!!!

Believe it or not, there is a right, and left hand chain anchor. 9n596 is the right, and 9n597 is the left. Yours are on the wrong sides. Makes the holes the anchor shackes fit into too low...

wow god eye!! I went to go fix it and because it installed wrong the pin in the shackle is complete bent i will have to cut it off any idea what size those shacles are so i can get new ones??
