Snapper front-engine mower hydro tranny advice needed

A year ago I inherited a Snapper Model 14.538 front-engine rider, made in 1998. It has seemed to be in great shape and has worked well. But after mowing grass for about an hour with no noise, slippage or other issues, I put the mower away for the night, and the next day: No forward or reverse. I'm an old gear-drive John Deere guy (have six 200-series) and admit to being as a pile of grass regarding hydro transaxles such as on the Snapper. YouTube, etc., is of no help. Can anyone on this board tell me (a) how the heck do I check and add hydraulic fluid; (b) what fluid should I use; and (c) any ideas on what to look for regarding my overnight loss forward and reverse just sitting in my shed? I'll welcome advice before I get too deeply into the transaxle. Thank you from an old hydro dummy.

When you put the mower away, did you push it into its parking spot or did you drive it there? If you pushed it in there, you probably had to open a bypass so the transmission could freewheel and you could push it. And the bypass is still open.
If you drove it to a parking spot, the first thing I would check is the belt. Either it is broken, or off the pulleys or it is not tight anymore for some reason, like a binding clutch linkage.

I think you have a Hydro gear hydro. This might tell you where oil level plug is.

I'll check for a hidden Allen plug. Easy enough to pull a wheel. Thanks for the tip.

Check the bypass lever near the back plate first. My neighbor had this happen on his rider after hitting a bump, the freewheel rod just popped out out of nowhere. If it's engaged, the pump won't build pressure to turn the wheels.

LE 14.538 or an LT 14.538. Most likely has a non serviceable Tuff Torq transaxle.

As others have suggested. Check that the freewheel lever is engaged.

Also check that the roll pin has not broken or fell out of the forward/reverse lever on the side of the transaxles.
