1963 2000 needs gas tank, HELP PLEASE

Problem is after adding fuel, flow isn't enough to keep engine running. Original tank.
I found new tank here #152217
Says hole for sending unit, what is a sending unit ? Send unit # 310938
What fuel line do I buy ?
One photo is my new filter and shut off, showing metal fuel line running by exhaust manifold () up beneath gas tank to tank entrance, appears to be some device there (send unit ?) second photo.

The sending unit is what you connect the wire from the fuel gauge to so that the fuel gauge tells you how much fuel is in the tank. The sending unit consists of a plate with an arm and a float assembly with a variable resistor that changes the resistance depending on where the float is positioned based on the level of fuel..

If you recently added that in-line fuel filter, get rid of it. That is what is most likely restricting your fuel flow. there were several fuel filters in that system when it was new and they were designed to filter out contaminates in the fuel without restricting the flow. That in-line filter looks like it is for a lawn tractor.

You are exactly right about the filter, probably a lawn tractor filter, however I have used one similar for years with no problem. I might try that.
I disconnected fuel line Before going into the filter and still just a few drops of fuel, so I believe the blockage is further towards the tank. I noticed an adjustment screw where the fuel line goes into the bottom of the tank, is that a fuel flow valve ?
Maybe if I open it up that will help ???

Its not your add on automotive fuel filter unless its restricted from contaminate fuel. It looks clean from where I am setting.

The valve that attaches under the tank has a fine screen associated with it. Turn the valve in to shut off the fuel flow, turn it out to run. You should probably check and make sure it's open before doing anything else.

Unless the tank is leaking I don't see any reason to replace it. Even if it's scaly inside a radiator shop can clean it up for you.

Thank You Pomester ! That's exactly what I was trying to describe. So it's a shutoff, I had no idea.

How did you install your line/filter/shut-off assembly without shutting off the fuel?

First of all I didn't know that shutoff on the bottom of the tank existed. I didn't know about the factory shutoff until you mentioned it. Thanks for the detailed information on that, very helpful !
Second when I was changing filters and I disconnected the filter on the tank side it just barely trickled out, so I assumed the problem was upstream from that point.
As I mentioned it was running fine until I added fuel, I assumed something about adding fuel loosened something to clog either the screen at the shutoff or the shutoff.
Next I will service that screen and replace o rings like you mentioned, thanks.
