County line overrun clutch - bush hog axle problems

Hello people. Long time since I have been here.

Got a 4 ft. (red, County Line) bush hog at Tractor Supply, with axle shaft and a overrun clutch (also County Line). The problem is that the axle shaft does not fit in the make end of the overrun clutch. Either the hole in the axle is too tight or the overrun clutch is too big. It enters, and slides in about 3/4", and then it is too tight and stuck. I had to file some on the shaft, and after trying to rotate to find a position that was not as bad as the others, I managed to smack it on using a 2x4 and a sledgehammer. Did not had to bang hard, but it is too tight to get off by hand.

Is this a common thing with County Line? I am 64, and been using tractors since I was 10, and never once come across a problem like this.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Brand new, both the bush hog / axle shaft and the overrun clutch. Assembled, and it works, but I will have to use a sledge hammer unhooking the bush hog.

If used I was wondering if the male stub got twisted, then things don’t fit easily.

Since it’s new, I wonder if paint got on either surface, or just manufactured poorly with burrs or sloppy machining. Burrs will likely wear down during use and loosen up, but yea it’s not a great situation.

No paint, just got tighter and tighter the further in it got. I would say some messed up when machining it, I have just never come across a male PTO part that was over the nominal value or a female part that was under it. Or so close to the 1-3/8" value that they get stuck into each other.

Seems wrong. Your going to have to take it back for them to make it right.
