Thanks, yep I read your post and was glad to hear that someone already wisely took those actions and plan to see an attorney. Creating a good paper trail is my first advice. Trouble is you win this in law not a problem but I always caution against repercussions by someone who may not care about the law grrrrr

You are of course correct about that sort of person, but what is the alternative? Just forget about prosecuting anyone on the grounds of fear of revenge?

Even though this thread is older and dates back a couple of years, the core issue with negligent owners remains identical across different states, as my family in Kentucky had to deal with a similar incident involving a neighbor's loose animals damaging our fence.

Shoot the dogs when they are on your property. We had same problem. First the dogs would come on property and chase animals. The dogs tore into a net wire pen and killed 30 chickens and kids pet goat. Killed both dogs while they were in pen. Sheriff’s Office said there was nothing that dog owners could do.

We had sheep growing up as a kid it was my job to take care of any dogs showing up to chase sheep. Once they are interested in sheep they will always come back and eventually start killing. I was advised to shoot with a 22 solid point in the rear of the lungs, take care to only get the lungs. The dog will run off and crawl into a bush to hide and bleed out. It is almost impossible to find a dog that has hidden. If a pack only shoot one dog at a time, sometimes the others get the message, that is not usually the case.

get .22 bird shot and shoot at them it will sting em good and not do them much of anything but they will probably stay away

Some people think it's too hard but the only way to deal with roaming dogs you don't know is a 12ga or rifle. If the owner comes by the only thing I'm giving them is a bill for damages to my property.

File a loss claim with the township trustee for loss of the calf, that's what dog tax is for, to supply the loss fund.
Years ago a pack of wild dogs were decimating my uncles flock of sheep. One day every farmer around gathered at his place with their long guns.
One of the men said he heard a noise behind him, wheeled around and saw a German Shepard lunging toward him. He dropped to the ground and the dog missed him. A few hours later that German Shepard was one of the carcasses collected, in all I think there were 9 dogs shot that day. What was left of the pack disappeared too, one was a poodle.
Today, to be politically correct, now we go coyote hunting.
