JD 60 radiator shutters

I've got a 1953 JD60 S/N 6023065 that I'm about to put the radiator back in. I put a new core in it and have it all sealed back up. (maybe I shouldn't have done that until this is answered?) It originally came with the shutter system for cooling, but that's long gone. I haven't done anything to the bottom tank and it's still got the shutter 'shaft?' in it. So I was wondering if anyone made an aftermarket system to put a thermostat in it? Anyone have any ideas on that? If not I'm probably going to put it together as-is and see what happens. Thoughts? Thanks.

Thanks BnD. When you say retrofit, do you mean find a later model housing that will fit my year model? Or is there a company that makes these? Thanks
I have a 50 with the same situation. I purchased a radiator top for a 520/530 with the thermostat. Drill a small hole in the thermostat so air will bleed out of the coolant.

Thanks Larson. I dunno if a different radiator top would work for mine. It's got an inlet that looks like a triangle shape to it. I was wondering if I could possibly separate the upper water pipe from the water outlet manifold on the engine and put a thermostat inside it. Hoping the O-ring inside it could hold a thermostat in. Hmm.....dunno. It's funny though; the LP gas version of the housing is built for a thermostat, but not on the gas models. Who knows, maybe I'll even cut a slit in the side screen in front of the radiator to put my own shutter in, but I doubt it.

I have an early JD50 with shutters. I flipped the shutter assembly upside down and use a control cable to adjust the airflow. I keep the coolant temperature around 180 degrees. I very seldom have to fool with the adjustment. It runs much better at 180 degrees. With the shutters open, the heat gauge will not move.
