Well sugar jets that did not go as planned

Well went out to the farm to address the shifting issue on my old ugly 806 , yea that did not go so vary well . I don't know what back woods chicken choker worked on that tractor or how he ever got bolts in . i never noticed till today that he installed the step brackets backwards and how in god's green earth how he put a full headed bolt in where the 12 point cap screw goes . Temper tested my 15/16th Mac open end wrench then had to take a disc grinder and cut the head off then back out cut again turn out and cut again . Then ok now we can get the range trans cover off , nope not with out a major fight due to the park loc arm pin was working it's way out and catching the back lip of the case . Had this on a 1086 and that one fought up for five and a half hours , this one and hour and a half . And the shifting issue was a broken shifting fork . Nope don't have one of them tucked away . So now i more then likely going to have to go 25 miles down the road and tear down one of the 706's setting down at my old buddy's son place Monday .

You’re not the only one. Got a BN needs carburetor gone thru. Soaked for three days, cleaned up very good, got complete kit with throttle shaft and bushings, and float. Before I took it apart the issue was belching black smoke like choking it for all it was worth. Well overhaul of carburetor and same issue. Had this thing apart 3 times checking everything from cracks in casting to float level changes. Always same thing, black smoke and bad. Customer just bought this tractor and said he has to change the plugs everyday. I finally took the main jet out (again) and took the main jet out of my super A and swapped. Wouldn’t you know, ran perfect. So I took it out again and his main jet was four numbered drill bits larger than my A’s. Someone was in here before. Can’t buy a jet, so the plug that threads into the casting at the main jet, I drilled it and tapped it 10/32 and install the air screw from a collection of old parts I save with a spring and small oring to seal against the plug and now I can adjust the main jet and lean the fuel down till it runs like a sewing machine and no leak. That was my day😁

Yep someone was playing with his drill and not knowing what he was doing . Back in the fun days of the 1/4 mile i had gobs of Holley and Carter pieces and parts and refining my carb building skills . we could dial in a tri power or dual quad set up . on my 61 Ford Sunliner i had a wild built 390 tri power and depending on temp and humidity we would change out jets . On Holley four bbl.'s we would stager jet them and change power valves . When my Accountant got me into this wild build on the M M U that we dumpster dived for junk pieces and part to build the 609 Cu. In night mare then feeding it with a 3 inch throat Bendix carb off a huge climax 6 cylinder fine tuning it became a work of art . Found that carb at a Mil. surplus yard up by Akron O. Now that place is all gone but man you could find neat stuff new in Boxes by the train load . They had this one guy that worked there that was better then any computer , Oscar knew everything alll ya had to do was tell him what you had on your mind and he would say FOLLOW ME . somewhere in one of the warehouses he had what ya needed . In 1980 i blew the power divider on my 77 I H 4300 Eagle , called every I H truck shop in 200 miles nobody had one , called Oscar told him what i needed , he said come on up got ya covered bring 200 bucks , I H wanted 1200 Made the 38 mile drive and Oscar had it setting on the floor new in the box with gskt . not just the gear but the WHOLE ASSEMBLY . Back then they even had NEW old stock of the D 264thru D 350 engines on pallets in O D green ready to run and a ware house of parts . anything and everything the Mil. every used even some sherman tanks in the back lot .
