On my ford 801 powermaster, when i go to start it, it acts like its going to but when i let off the button it doesnt start and there is a loud buzzing/humming noise. It has a brand new battery, soelenoid, and starter. What could be the problem. Thanks in advance -Jonah

Hello Jonah, welcome to YT!
Edit: After reviewing your other recent threads about your tractor let me just ask this first. Is the engine(fan) being turned during the attempt to start the engine?
Would you say the sounds is a grinding sound somewhat like a power saw cutting wood? Or is there no grinding and the descriptions you gave are best? If grinding, the starter drive teeth are not properly engaging into the flywheel teeth which obviously leads to the engine not turning over. If your first description is on par then likely the starter drive on the new starter is not extending out to engage into the flywheel teeth so all you hear is the starter motor armature spinning. What is the reason for installing all the new parts? Was this a running tractor previously?

hello! Thank you for the reply. The fan is turning and I actually got it to start after i made the post. It does sound like a power saw like you said. I will look at the starter tomorrow it very well might be the problem. I put on the solenoid because the one that was on when i bought the tractor went bad and the battery was dead. I changed the starter just so it would be one less thing to worry about.

That sound is your starter winding down after it disengages from the ring gear. The problem is that it hits on just one cylinder, which is just enough to relieve tension on the bendix so it releases. You need to look at fuel and spark to see why more cylinders aren't firing. One possibility is low float level. It has done it to me.

Ok thank you.
