Hydraulic pump leak

Can anyone help me with a hydraulic pump leak on 1957 JD 320U. It is leaking into motor. I look at parts diagram and I do not see what seal or gasket stops the leak from happening. Pump is mounted on front of motor. It works. The leak is not excessive but it does need to be repaired before any damage is done. Bill C

Hello Bill, welcome to YT! Okay please understand I have no personal experience, but it looks like oring 9 to me, PN M1866T. Current PN U11647

I'm not familiar with that specific model, but from pictures I've found, it appears that the pump is gear driven off of the timing gears.

Logically, the sealing device would be on the shaft that protrudes from the pump into the engine block. I agree that appears to be part 9 in the diagram, an o-ring, part M1866T. That part is available from your local Deere dealer as part U11647 and costs $4.41.

Yes, $4.41 is a lot for an o-ring, but this is for a nearly 70 year old tractor, and it's STILL AVAILABLE FROM THE ORIGINAL DEALER!!!

Hopefully there isn't a groove worn in the shaft at that location. If there is a new o-ring won't hold.

Agree, I was also thinking a worn shaft #3 along with o ring might cause this problem. Maybe a slightly smaller id "O ring" would help.

I was thinking same thing on the drive shaft. I am going to call JD dealer tomorrow and see if I can get the shaft. I also see the three gaskets come as a kit with the o ring. Everyone has been very helpful. Plan on repairing it as soon as I get the parts. Plowed 20 acres today so it still works. Bill C.

What are you complaining about on 4.41 for a O/ring . Here let this sink in , two years ago i was working on a 1206 , i needed two o/rings for the pilot control valve for the steering , i looked in my I H o/ring box and dang i was out and since i semi retired that hole or i should say two holes were EMPTY . Ok so i give a call to the local as we NOW call it the Catalogue store since it has now changed hands twice since the org owner retired but there boy still works there in parts , Mike i need the two o/rings for the pilot control valve on a 1206 same as a 706 , he looks and comes back on the phone and said i don't have them i can have them tomorrow , ok fine get them , next day Mikey calls me i got them , i'll be right down i get there and he hands me the bill , 54.65 for one and 56.87 for the other . Good think i had my Nitro pills and in haler with me . For O/Rings that should have been under two bucks as that was what the little sticker said in my o/ring box . But i got the seep stopped and passed the cost along to the customer who about went thru the roof . Told him you wanted the seep stopped i stopped the seep take it up with the dealer . It is unreal who bad they have jacked up prices over GREED , that all it is Greed hammer the farmer .
