Good morning everyone I got my big field of first cutting done yesterday. it was about 9 acres I cut on Wednesday. turned out to be a really nice stand of orchard grass besides the weeds.the haybine and baler held together. I was planing on baling Sunday afternoon but at about 3 clock Saturday I knew it was gonna rain. I hooked up the baler and greased it I went and started myself. My girlfriend and my buddy grabbed two more wagons we quit when it started raining at about 1030. The wind was blowing and the moisture was right I wish we could have kept going. We got most of the field done. I guess the videos are to big so there’s some pics. I’ve also been throwing around idea of making a YouTube channel because I feel like there just isn’t enough small farmer making videos

Is that an IH 990 haybine? In my opinion they were by far the best of all the sickle cut haybine of the era. We've had or used a few JD's and NH's and a Hesston between both farms, and the 990 beats them all. I bought mine for scrap price as a backup for our Southern farm, and it was beat to holy heck. But it still cut circles around the well-maintained & aligned JD 1209 we had at that farm. I couldn't do a good job of explaining why it's so much better. Just a tiny bit faster, slightly simpler, a bit lighter, a smidge less likely to plug (and very easy to unplug with those rolls that open up when you raise the head), etc. None of those points are really substantial - it's not like the Deere it replaced ever gave notable trouble or was a pain to use. But enough smaller aspects that, when combined, made the 990's superior units.

I posted to Whistlin200's earlier post about the 990 that whenever they come up here that they get praise. I used one for probably five years, but had to step up to a disc moco, due to addition of ground. The roll arrangement is the best available.

You can tell by how the hay is standing up in the windrow that it is still dry. Around here as soon as the hay goes into the shade of the tree line, it starts to suck moisture out of the ground.
