John deere 3010 tach jumping all over.

I have a new tach in my 3010. Only 50 hrs on it. The rpm needle jumps all over the place. Is the issue typically the cable?

Take the cable out and grease it.

Often it’s the cable if tach is new where did the tach come from?

Could be the tach? Easy to do, try some tach cable lube from the auto parts store. Good in hot and cold weather!

If the cable is in good shape, it could be the drive gear for it got some teeth stripped.
