966 injector pump Help needed!

We had the bolts break on the gear on the injector pump on our 966. They broke because when it got reinstalled after being rebuilt they didn’t get torqued correctly and the worked loose.
Anyways i took the pump off I got the pulley replaced on the end of the shaft because the threads were messed up and now have reinstalled the pump.
I set the flywheel to 18degrees and had the pump aligned on the timing mark. We bled everything and it wouldn’t start. So I reset the timing on the flywheel and I took the gear off and turned the pump 1 turn clockwise to the timing mark. It still worn fire, it smokes some but we can’t get it to go. Am I missing something?

Have you cracked the lines loose at the injectors and cranked it over till you get fuel spraying out? What pulley did you replace? Only pulley is the harmonic balancer.

Yes I had fuel coming out of all the lines at the injectors.

The pulley on the end of the pump shaft for the gear to mount on to. It has the slots for the bolts to go through and the back side has the treads. The bolts broke off in the other one. The machine shop in town I took the pump to had the same pump he was sending in for a core so I was able to get replaced.

That pump turns at ENGINE SPEED, but the hydraulic head turns at 1/2 ENGINE SPEED. sounds to me like timing is 1/2 turn off. I would align the timing marks again. Now remove the three pump gear bolts and turn the pump ONE TURN and start over with replacing the gear and resetting timing. I leave the front pump gear cover off until I hear the engine start/run and know timing is right. Engine won't start if timing is 1/2 turn off.
