Hi all,
I have a B23 bar mower, I recently striped it to sharpen and re-rivet 4 teeth on. I noticed in-between the bar and the clamps that hold down the moving cutters is a thin adjustable spacer it's job is to holds the cutters forwards, its thin and presses on the cutter bar that moves this can't be right it will where down fast, is there a part missing to hold the moving bar forwards?

It sounds right to me. Those backer wear plates are pretty common wear items. And they're one of the few pieces that's universal between most makes of mowers, as the guard spacing and backset is the same for most North American mowers. Any ag dealer, TSC, or tractor supply worth their salt should have them. Important to make sure they're in good shape and in-line so the knife isn't wearing into the bar itself.

See this link - pretty sure this is what you're thinking of?

It looks like mine are worn out the upturned part is gone it's just a flat plate, the mower works well I am impressed with it, cut's well deep grass sometimes clogs but just reverse a foot and it fine. Thank's for your help! John

Note that the picture in that link is upside-down: The 'upturned part' actually drops down in practice, to be between the knife and main bar.
