CAV Injection Pump Governor Setting

CAV Injection Pump Governor Setting.

I have a 2675 (354 naturally asperated) with the CAV injection pump. It is a fairly new to me tractor that was purchased with engine problems (using a lot of oil and smoking). We did a full rebuild of the engine (and resealed the power shift and did the clutch for good measure). It is working fine with one issue, which is the governor does not seem to be working. It pulls down a lot when stressed, even a little, and then revs up high if you give the throttle a push.

We did no fuel injection work yet.

Before I take the injection pump cover off, my question is: could I change the governor reaction by just moving the spring position? I have resealed lots of CAV pumps but just always put the spring back where it was.

Thanks,
JP.

Are you 100% sure the Fuel injection pump is timed correctly as per service manual introductions?

I have NEVER worked on a 2675 however, I have assisted the owners of other MF Tractors with the CAV injection pump , who had the timing gears NOT timed to the factory marks,(They never looked at a service manual)
The engines would over rev, and the CAV pump would not throttle back. The operator had to manually control the throttle.

Don't move the spring unless you know where it should go, the engine can run away with terminal damage. The plate should tell you the spring position, it will be stamped between the idle and governed speeds. A number 1 to 9. You've got a peg which can go in one of three holes in the governor plate, and three holes in the peg link. Top hole and hole closest to the plate is 1, then 2 and 3 along the link. Next row 4,5,6, bottom row 7,8,9. If the history is unknown it would be worth checking that it hasn't been incorrectly assembled in the past.

Pretty Sure.

I'm going to remove the cover for a look inside. Just have to find where I put my stash of CAV reseal kits.

Throttle is working normally, there is just no governing going on.
