1947 WC Allis Chalmers - Gas Shut-0ff Valve Leak

Hello,

We have a 1947 WC Allis Chalmers. I recently replaced the sediment bowl gasket with a new cork gasket, and I am unable to get this seal (there is gas that still wicks out from between the top of the bowl and the gasket). I have tightened the nut under the bowl about a far as I dare as I am concerned with cracking the bowl. Does anyone have any ideas why this still leaks? I think that the valve packing is ok.

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The gasket surface is most likely not flat. More tightening pulls down the housing where the bail is hooked on and eventually bends the housing down. Remove the gasket and hold the bowl in place and see if it rocks side to side. Just replace the complete assembly.
