In Need Of Advice For Oil Filter Base

I have a round nose 311, i think 1957. The oil filter base is the early external thread screw on type filter. The tube that sticks up into the filter is not there. This tractor is new to me and i just wanted to get fresh oil and filter service done. I checked the inside of the old filter, and its not there, my assumption is it went with one of the filters the previous owner threw away. This does let the tractor have oil pressure but doesnt filter anything. Are there replacements? Is there a different base that accepts the female threaded oil filter that will bolt on to the block? If, with the tube, they couldnt get oil pressure could it be they removed it for a reason? The original dash gauges are rusted and non functioning, but i adjusted the valves when i got it and it seems to have good oil up to the rocker arms and all of that.
Thanks for any advice

The tube is just a piece of 1/4" od pipe and about 5" long. Take a drill bit to stick in hole to check size for sure. Pipe can be found at hardware store as brass pipe and I think I used piece of copper pipe to replace one

There are several different stem tubes used in these by-pass oil filters. It's very easy to make up a stem tube, some people use steel brake tubing. I prefer 1/4 inch refrigeration grade soft drawn copper tubing as it is easy to work and drill.

Tube length required is 4.25 inch, about 1/2 inch of that length will be pressed down into the filter base socket. Solder the top closed and drill one hole 0.060 inch, sand the top round so the filter media will slide down over the tube smoothly. Sand down the socket end some for a light interference fit and press it in to the filter base socket. The oil hole(s) size can be ballpark as the filter media is the primary restriction.
